Terms of Service
These terms set out how you may use Family Legacy, a private archive for one family's voices and stories.
Last updated: 29 June 2026
Acceptance
By using Family Legacy, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the archive.
Eligibility
The archive is invitation-only and intended for adults — those aged 18 or over — who manage or contribute to the family record. Stories and recordings may feature family members of any age, but accounts are for adults.
What the service does
Family Legacy lets approved family members record conversations, store the voice recordings and transcripts, contribute photos and videos, build a family tree, and search the archive. It is a private record, not a public or genealogy-database service.
Your account
New accounts start as pending and are approved by a family archivist. You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for activity on your account. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- record anyone’s voice without their explicit consent;
- upload content you do not have the right to share;
- share another family member’s recordings or details outside the archive without their consent;
- attempt to access accounts, data or families that are not yours;
- disrupt, scrape or misuse the archive.
Your content and intellectual property
The recordings, photos and writing you contribute remain yours and your family’s. You grant us only the permission needed to store, transcribe and show that content back to your family within the archive. The software and design of Family Legacy remain ours.
Billing
Family Legacy is currently provided to the family at no charge. There is no active paid plan. If that ever changes, we will set out the pricing, renewal and cancellation terms clearly and ask for your agreement before any charge.
Disclaimer of warranties
The archive is provided on an “as is” basis. While we work to keep it reliable and to protect what you store, we cannot guarantee it will always be available or error-free.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Family Legacy is not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the archive. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Termination
You can delete your account at any time from your account page. We may suspend or remove an account that breaches these terms or puts the archive or other family members at risk.
Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. If something goes wrong, please contact us first so we can try to put it right. Your rights under the UK GDPR and GDPR are not affected by this clause.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will update the date at the top and, where a change is material, let you know by email.
